Anne E. DeChant

Simply put, the music of Anne E. DeChant is a combination of concise, undeniable melodies, interlaced with powerful and thought provoking lyrics. Upon seeing Anne's theatrical live stage presentation, two elements become immediately obvious: Her intense songs and her striking vocal presence. Cleveland's Free Times Magazine chose Anne E. as the Best Vocalist and Folk Americana Act for 1999 and she and her band were voted Best Folk/Acoustic Act in Scene Magazine's 1999 Awards. The year 1997 won Anne E. the title of Best Singer/Songwriter in Cleveland's Free Times Reader's Poll and Best Regional Vocalist in Scene Magazine's Reader Poll. In 1994, for the first and only time, Cleveland Magazine polled their readers for Cleveland's Favorite Vocalist Anne E. won the honor.

As the founding member and driving force behind Cleveland's "Odd Girl Out", Anne E. toured extensively throughout the northeast, playing numerous college and club dates. She has opened for such national acts as Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, Stephen Stills, Joan Armatrading, Melissa Etheridge, Roger McGwinn, America and Paula Poundstone. This exposure helped the group promote their self-released CD, which sold in excess of seventy-five hundred units and captured the attention of numerous recording companies.

On July 19, 1997, DeChant released her solo debut "Effort of the Spin" to a standing room only house at Cleveland's Peabody's Down under. By October, 1000 CDs had sold. Produced by Jon Denney and backed by her live band as well as other prominent regional musicians, the work is a culmination of two years of artistic exploration and development.

With the formation of her new band, Anne's musical evolution has taken a giant step forward. Her recent exploration into a more electric and edgy sound along with her experience in "Odd Girl Out" have led to the conclusion that the most authentic interpretation of Anne's music falls somewhere between the two. Anne's new project pulls the best from each end of the musical spectrum. The vocal intensity, lyrical centrality and acoustic warmth ever present in "Odd Girl Out" remain while acoustic and electric guitar, drums and bass serve to embellish.

The new year will be spent writing, producing, recording and touring. Anne E. is currently recording a new CD slotted for a fall release. Anne continues to deliver her powerful live show with the energy and excellence on which Cleveland has come to rely. She is quickly establishing herself as one of the northeast region's most gifted and promising artists. Experience what Cleveland has known for quite some time...the talent of Anne E. DeChant.
