Ash Koley is the name of a band comprised of 2 people: Ash Koley and Phil Deschambault. Phil’s name isn’t as catchy and Ash is narcissistic enough to agree to have the band named after herself. Ash Koley’s sophisticated brand of quirky pop music have burst onto the music scene like supernova to become one of the brightest lights the industry has seen in ages.

Even as a pre-schooler, Ash felt destined to sing and began performing for family and friends in the living room of her Winnipeg home. Nothing unusual here – except for the astonishing voice and energy that was projecting from her tiny frame. At the same time, a young Phil with hair down to his waist was practising guitar in his room while all his friends were out playing hockey in the small town of Russell Manitoba. Nothing out of the ordinary there either, except a teenager more interested in the sounds and lyrics of Peter Gabriel than sports and girls; Yet he still managed to master those two subjects as well.

It was when Ash and Phil were introduced to each other in early 2004 that really got the ball rolling. Their “not-the-usual-pop” style clicked right away. Like a couple of crazed beatnik artists they started throwing influences like Abba, Frank Sinatra, Imogen Heap, and of course,Peter Gabriel onto their canvas. Their songs seemed to be raising conversation in the industry as Phil writes an almost-finished song, then Ash puts her voice on it and finishes it off. Combined with the undeniable chemistry that already existed, their vision started to take shape.

A diabolical plan was hatched to break Ash Koley (Ash and Phil) globally – Glen Willows (fresh off a major label for Inward Eye with J Records (Clive Davis) and Sony/BMG worldwide) signed Ash to his management company and started circulating the rough demos in Canada, New York and L.A. Not surprisingly they were courted by both North American and European publishers, as well as Terry McBride of Nettwerk.

Ash and Phil signed on to co-management with Terry McBride of Nettwerk Records/Management and kept writing and making home videos together for youtube.

The quirky but catchy hybrid of Phil’s no-rules approach to pop production and Ash’s velvety voice and emotional delivery is sure to be recognized as a breath of fresh air in the current music biz.

Still early in the game, Ash Koley’s future looks very bright!
