Artist Bio

Elizaveta (Elizaveta Igorevna Khripounova), was born in New York, where her Russian parents were stationed at the United Nations, and grew up in Moscow, Russia, playing piano but refusing to learn how to figure-skate. She left home in her teens, to roam the world and follow her musical dreams. In the process, Elizaveta picked up a degree in opera performance, learned how to drive stick-shift and ride a motorcycle, as well as acquired a couple of foreign languages along the way.

Elly's music is a quirky and magical brew of musical styles, which, in addition to jazz, pop and rock, also features opera as a new ingredient. She worships at the altar of Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder and Elton John, still listens to Queen, and has written over a hundred of songs. The petite and deceivingly fragile pianist, and now guitarist, has been blessed with a huge and stunning voice which can go from a delicate whisper to full-blown operatic glass-shattering volume in a matter of seconds. Elizaveta also doesn't like diamonds, has a thing for motorcycles, and you can easily find her pairing up an ball gown with a pair of Converse kicks, while reading Eastern philosophy and queuing up her favorite Japanese anime on Netflix (which would probably be by Hayao Miyazaki).

Her previous releases include Breakfast with Chopin, which was a songwriting tribute to her favorite classical composers, such as Beethoven, Chopin and Tchaikovsky. It was followed up by Like Water, the title track of which was featured in the Sony Pictures film The House Bunny. Her song Gravity will be part of the upcoming film 'Ice Castles', also from Sony Pictures. Summer 2009 saw her as the face of advertising viral campaign for sneaker giant Converse, which had her write and perform a song in a music video.

Elizaveta currently lives in LA, preparing lots of new music to be released in November 2009, learning how to play cello & Theremin and plotting to get another motorcycle if she doesn't go broke buying all the books. A Russian CD is also in the works
