Fuzzy Comets

If you have ever dallied in a rainstorm wearing no shoes, climbed Mt. Everest in roller skates, or watched a tulip burst through the snow, then you have come close to a Fuzzy Comets experience. This musical group hails from Pittsburgh, PA and their music is an eclectic mix of the glorious and the unexpected. The music maintains the snap and crackle of pop with a driving rhythm section, but combines the emotional stirrings of a violin and female vocals. The sound incorporates modern rock riffs with Appalachia, folk, ethereal and jazz.

Although the Fuzzy Comets are new to the music scene, having been together for less than a year in the current configuration, the band has over 40 songs under its belt and the fivesome have recorded a five song demo, "Circus King." This summer, the band is making plans to record a full length CD for independent distribution under thier own label and tour in the fall of 99. The Fuzzy Comets have played numerous venues in the 'Burgh including Rosebud, Pluto's, the Next Decade. Recently, the Comets won third place in the Iron City Rock Challenge and are steadily touring in, around, and far from their Pittsburgh base.

The comets recently returned home from their second jaunt to New York City, where they performed at the famed CBGB's. In the past, the Comets have performed in New York at East Village's Meow Mix (2/11/99) and on a live-radio show for 91.1 WFMU (2/13/99). In Pittsburgh, the band hosts and organizes a smashing weekly event, Girls Night Out. Bands as far as Ireland (Too Cynical to Cry) perform at the venue. Other participants include: Jonatha Brooke, Imogen Heap, Brenda Kahn, Veda Hille, Stacy Earl, Jill Sobule, Jennifer Kimball, Michelle Lewis, Sloan, Diane Izzo, Melissa Ferrick, the Delgados and a slew of others. The evening is a mix of local as well as non-local talent and, as hosts, the Fuzzy Comets perform weekly. To spice things up, hairdressers, massage therapists, henna artists, manicurists, DJ's, and poets all join forces to offer the public their goods and services for free at Girls Night Out. The Fuzzy Comets feel this event is a great asset to the region, showcasing female talent in various areas from the arts to music to poetry. They are proud to be its founders.
