Suzanne Vega

Suzanne Vega is very pleased to be releasing Tried And True: The Best Of Suzanne Vega. "I like retrospectives in general, and I have a lot of them myself at home" says Suzanne. "If it were up to me, I'd put out a retrospective every year because I often look back."

Suzanne Vega has been writing songs that reflect her life, combining heart and spirit, since she began performing in Greenwich Village coffeehouses while still in her teens. In 1985, her debut self-titled album was released to rave reviews from critics. The New York Times hailed her as "the strongest, most decisively shaped songwriting personality to come along in years." Growing up in multi-cultural Spanish Harlem and the Upper West Side in New York, Suzanne's music soaked up many of these influences. Pieces of cool jazz and bossa nova, the Beatles and folk singers such as Pete Seeger, can all be found in her music.

Tried And True: The Best Of Suzanne Vega traces Suzanne's development not only as an artist, but as a woman making her way in the world. This collection encompasses her recording career to date: the early days of Suzanne Vega and Solitude Standing as Suzanne was finding herself and her style; the introspective period of Days Of Open Hand; the more experimental times of 99.9F, when she met and married her husband, producer Mitchell Froom; and Nine Objects of Desire, as Suzanne experienced the birth of her daughter. Each song tells its own story and is a piece of the puzzle which makes up Tried And True: The Best Of Suzanne Vega.
