Email of the Day:
It is with a tear in my eye but much joy in my heart that I think about Lilith Fair's last show in Edmonton today. In the background all four Lilith fair CD's play and I remember fondly the four Lilith Fairs, over the last three years, my daughter and I have had the honor of attending. We also had the pleasure of sharing two of those summer tours with other important females in our lives, a cousin, niece, and friends.
The impact of what Lilith Fair has done for "Women in Music" will not only be felt in this the last century of this milleninum but,I am convinced, for years to come. It gave me an opportunity to experience something I was never able to find while growing up in the late sixties and seventies; a venue for females from every walk of life to gather together, to celebrate our humanity. It also gave my thirteen year old niece a taste of what is yet to come. So, in many ways Lilith Fair has served to meet the needs of the past but also taken women into the future.
Thank you Sarah Mclachlan for having a vision and following it to the end. You have touched countless lives with your dream of what Lilith Fair could be. And thanks to all who worked so hard at keeping this website active and up-to-date. It helped to extend my Lilith Fair experience far beyond my expectations. Grace and Peace to all of you.

Time To Go Home
We'd like to thank everyone who participated in the tour in any capacity - from the village stage performers to the main stage artists; from the local crews to the crew who has been on the road for the last three years; from the fans at the first show at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver in 1996 to the fans at the last show in Edmonton on August 31, 1999; and to the people that visit the web site everyday or maybe just stopped by once - thanks to everyone for making Lilith Fair what it is.

Fan Reports
Christine writes on her experiences in Edmonton:
I am writing you from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I am fifteen years old
and this was my first year attending Lilith Fair. I would just like to
express my deepest and most grateful thanks for what I was able to
experience through your concert. It is now 12:30AM local time, I have just
arrived home, my hair is still soaking wet, as are my socks, but I am just
so incredibly thrilled, and moved by what I was a so fortunate to be part
of this evening.
All of the performers from all of the stages were just so
wonderful, and the fact that they played together, and sang along to each
other's songs was just so wonderful, and watching Sarah dance, and Sheryl
play with her baton thing, and all of the others, we were not only able to
hear them sing, which in itself is so great, but we were able to watch
great performance after performance.
While it rained, and rained, and
rained some more and we could see our breath as we exhaled, I never once
felt chilled, or wet. I believe it was because there was so much warmth,
excitement, and energy in our stadium, all brought on by the super
wonderful performers, and the crew, who never kept us waiting long between
sets, as well as my fellow Edmontonians.
I could not help myself from
smiling the whole evening, I had such a great time. It was very moving to
see, and be surrounded by so much greatness, yet not feel threatened, or
little, but to rather feel as if I were a part of the concert, and to feel
even more whole as a person, for just having been there... which I think
everyone who was there felt. I loved the awareness it brought to each and
everyone of us, and the fact that it helps out such wonderful charities,
and it brought out the best of us all, some people cried, while others
smiled, and to be able to bring that to people is just so wonderful.
My
voice is hoarse, as was most everyone's who I spoke to as we left, because
we were all cheering so much, without realizing it until after, when we had
no voices. Some might say we 'stuck it out' through the rain... but to me,
there was nothing that could have made me leave any earlier, or make my
smile any smaller, or my heart any warmer. As corny as it may sound, it is
true, and I would just like to give a huge thanks to everyone involved for
putting on such a great evening for myself, and all the others.
Sincerely,
Christine

Nearly all the photos that we have received are now up. There is probably one more batch that is coming from the Edmonton show, but other than that, most everything is here. Check out the fun that transpired on August 31 in Edmonton as Lilith closed the doors on three great years in a cold rain.
There are also some great photos from the Lilith Fair wrap party that took place in Denver Saturday night.
Make sure you check out the special crew photo essay from Vanessa. See just what too much touring does to your eyes.
Lilith Fair/ASCAP Songwriting Contest
For the past three years, Lilith Fair has been a powerful musical force and an important showcase for women musicians. Although the Lilith Fair may be coming to an end,we have created a way for its spirit to live on - a songwriting contest for women only!
We have partnered with The ASCAP Foundation to establish this contest which will have a grand prize of 10,000 (not too shabby if we do say so ourselves). Many highly regarded women songwriters have banded together to underwrite this prize money (a nice endorsement for which we consider ourselves lucky). In addition, the final panel of judges will include some of today's greatest women songwriters and performers.
For more information, please visit the contest website at http://www.lilithsong.org.
Mosaic is a Hit!
Mosaic is a traveling art project which, in addition to giving patrons a chance to create their own work of art, will also raise money for a select non-profit community arts center or other non-profit organization in each market that the tour visits. So far on the tour hundreds and hundreds of fans have stopped by to participate in activities as varied as building sand castles to making masks. New Mosaic photos are added daily.
