"These recordings and songs are good," says the confident Starr, "but my strong point is performing. Thats my hour and 15 minutes where I have everyone's attention and I'm doing what I love to do. I feel this gift I have is my way of getting out some of the things I need to say. Its my way of talking to the world."

Starr's EP was released by Redfade, a New Orleans label run by her manager, Mark. It's part of a deal Starr has with Records, which will deliver her first full-length album next spring. The debut will be coproduced by Dennis Herring ( Cracker, Camper van Beethoven) and Clay Jones (guitarist in This Living Hand).

The reason for Starr's two-step debut is that she is developing very quickly as an artist. Word is that the Greffen album, which Starr will record at Daniel Lanois' Kingsway studios in New Orleans this fall, will be even more advanced than EP. And the EP, which follows release of a local cassette, Pinwheels, is the work of a full-blown, scarily precocious musician indeed.
