Well, this whole site is a FAQ for Lilith Fair, but there are a number of questions that we get asked everyday that we would like to clear up. It will make life that much easier for you and us, and that is what it is all about, isn't it?
This FAQ will be posted to the lilithfair.general newsgroup every monday, except for those mondays that i forget in which case it could be tuesday. once in awhile it might be wednesday, but it will never be thursday. We'll try to answer some of the questions that most people tend to have about the tour. You can also find this located on the Lilith web site.
DATES/TICKETS
Q. Any plans for a weekend show in (insert name of city that has a monday - thursday show)?
A. Although I admire your desire for more shows, don't you think that you are being just a little greedy? As much as we wish every show could be a Saturday or Sunday, if that were the case there would be eight shows instead of nearly 40. Then you would really be mad at us.
Q. Are you coming to (insert name of city here)? (City name) would be a great place for the tour. Thanks!
A. No, thank you for your suggestion. There has been so much email from people suggesting every place imaginable from Saskatoon to Wyoming to Florida to their backyard. At this point everything is pretty well set. We can't play everywhere this summer. There are always different reasons for this. Most of the time it is a question of routing. It just won't work. Or maybe the venues that we could play at in your area are booked when we were looking at being around there. Just remember it is not a personal slight against you or your city. We are trying to get to as many places as possible but we have a limited time frame and are doing our best. We like Florida. (Go Marlins!) The routing just made it impossible to go there this year.
Q. Are there more dates to come?
A. No. Everything is confirmed and announced. Nothing more will be added.
Q. Can I buy tickets from the Lilith Web Site?
A. At one point we were planning on selling some select tickets from our site. Then we decided that we would be better off working on other aspects of the web site instead of trying to do what others are already doing. So, no you won't be able to buy tickets from us, but if any of the shows are selling tickets online we will link you to them.
Q. Can we...
- take pictures at the show?
- bring our own food?
- bring our own water?
- bring a blanket to sit on?
- bring our kids for free?
A. All the answers to these questions, and many more that i didn't think of while writing this, will vary from venue to venue. We will try to get all the info relavent to your show posted as soon as possible. It would be a bummer to bring a blanket and cooler of food for a picnic at the venue only to be told that you have to leave it at the gate or in your car. It would be an even bigger bummer if it was your two year old you had to do that to. We'll help you to prepare for all the little surprises of outdoor shows, but when in doubt, call the venue.
ARTISTS
Q. Is Tori Amos going to be on the tour? How about Ani DiFranco?
A. Tori and Ani are the two artists we get asked about the most. All i can tell you is that we approached Ani and she is already busy this summer. That is a "no" in case anyone isn't reading between the lines. I haven't heard about Tori yet. We heard she'll be spending most of the summer in the studio. But we also heard that there was money to be made on the internet. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Q. What about Bjork, Joni Mitchell, Tara Maclean, Nanci Griffith, Lisa Cerbone, Kathy Mattea, Sinaed O'Connor, Trisha Yearwood, Happy Rhodes, Liz Phair, Melissa Etheridge...?
A. You name them, we've been asked about them. We've talked to most everyone. Not everyone was interested in doing the tour. Others had previous committments, others are being committed. The lineup is confirmed now and we're aren't looking to add anyone else to it. We hope that there may be the occasional special guest, but no promises.
Q. I heard there is going to be a second stage and now a third stage. Are you going to have local acts perform? OR I'm in a band from (insert city here). How do i get on the show in our city?
A. Very good questions. We would very much like to have local artists perform on the second and third stages, but the logistics of putting this together, especially for the first time, mean that it isn't happening this time around. There will be a second stage, however, but the artists will be touring with us. It is too late to contact us about playing on the second or third stage. Maybe next year. But don't ask us about it now. We're busy. There's this thing called the Lilith Fair. Maybe you've heard of it.
Q. Is there a time when all the artists are going to be together for one super big ultra extravagant show?
A. Stop your dreaming! As nice as it would be, it just won't happen.
VOLUNTEERING/SPONSORING
Q. How can I volunteer for Lilith Fair? Is there something that we can do to help?
A. Many thanks to all the people who have asked this question. It is great to see that people (both women and men) want to get involved. As we get closer to the launch of the tour we will know more about the groups that we are working with in each community and what they will be doing for the show. When we have that information we will then have a better idea of how everyone can be involved. Until then, the best thing you can do is to find a women's group in your community and volunteer your time there. Help any way you can. Let us know about the group and what they are doing. Let them know about the tour. Do anything - just get involved.
Q. I run a company that wants to be involved in Lilith Fair either through becoming a sponsor or setting up a booth in the fair. How do i get involved?
A. All the groups that are tabling or are setting up in the Lilith Village are confirmed. We'll be posting information about them soon.
MERCHANDISE
Q. Can I order the stuff on the web now? Will there be more shirts available at the venues?
A. No and yes. We are putting the finishing touches on the Lilith Merch server and then you'll be able to order all kinds of merchandise from Lilith and the artists on the tour. We'll likely have some stuff that is exclusive to the site and doesn't make it out on the road, so have a look once we get it up.
Q. Will artists have their own shirts too?
A. Each artist will likely have a few different styles available at each show. Some artists will also make available additional styles of shirts that can be purchased through the Lilith web site.
Q. What about cd's? Can I buy cd's at the venue?
A. Borders Books and Music, who are one of the community partners of Lilith Fair, will be selling tapes and cd's for all Lilith artists in the Lilith Village. So if you hear something you like at the show that you haven't heard before, you can buy it right at the show.
