Liquid AudioTM, the Internet music software company, and Nettwerk Media recording artist Sarah McLachlan today announced that "Building a Mystery," the first single from McLachlan's upcoming album "Surfacing," will debut on the Sarah McLachlan Homepage on the Nettwerk Productions Website at www.sarahmclachlan.com, using Liquid Audio's technology. The album will be available in stores beginning July 15th, but music fans will be able to preview the song beginning June 10th using the Liquid MusicPlayer, available free-of-charge from the Liquid Audio Website at www.liquidaudio.com.

"The premiere of Sarah McLachlan's "Building a Mystery" online, before radio station airplay, again demonstrates the power of the Internet as a viable and important means of delivering music to consumers," said Stephen Klein, vice president of marketing for Liquid Audio. "By using our technology, we are enabling musicians to take advantage of the Internet to offer new and existing fans a way to listen to their music before they are able to make it available through traditional methods."

An album title that alludes to the sense of 'rising' is most fitting for Sarah McLachlan. The Vancouver singer/songwriter's ten-year career has indeed been a decade of ascending: in popularity, in profile and, most importantly, in her sense of self. McLachlan has made a career out of putting herself on the line emotionally; fans are repeatedly drawn in to her candor and forthrightness. Sarah's new album, Surfacing, is no different. As McLachlan explains, "Surfacing is about me finally growing up and facing ugly things about myself. We all have a dark side; it's bullshit to say that we don't. At some point we're going to have to face that."

Designed by professional audio engineers, Liquid Audio's products exclusively utilize an enhanced version of Dolby Digital compression technology to deliver the highest quality sound over the Internet. The Liquid Audio software suite consists of three components: mastering tools for content creation, playback tools for sampling, purchasing and publishing, and audio delivery tools to complete the client/server architecture.

"Building a Mystery" will be available for listening from Sarah McLachlan's Homepage on the Nettwerk Productions Website at www.sarahmclachlan.com on June 10, 1997. The Liquid MusicPlayer, for PC and Macintosh, is available as a free download from Liquid Audio's Website: www.liquidaudio.com.
