press conference - august 04

Attendees at the press conference today included Sarah McLachlan, Lisa Loeb, Katell Keineg, Alana Davis and Kelly Willis.

When asked about her plans to include male artists on the bill at next year's Lilith Fair Sarah McLachlan responded "I don't think music has a gender. This year we wanted to prove a point mostly to the industry more than anybody else. The industry has been living by these old standards - you can't play two women back to back or put two women on the same bill, we really wanted to blow that myth out of the water and I think we've done that with this tour."

Alana Davis, who has a new record being released in September was asked how her experience at Lilith would prepare her for the future. "Its preparing me for a lot of touring. I've only done these two days before and today will be my last day." She playfully added "I don't know how many people I've reached but maybe if these girls like my stuff they'll pass my name around ... you never know."

Kelly Willis was asked how her Lilith experience may influence the recording of her new record. "Its kinda interesting for me partially because the audience is much more of a pop audience than I'm used to playing for. Its fun I'm just doing my favourite stuff."

The conference ended with Sarah on behalf of Lilith Fair presenting Pat Prestige of Genesis Women's Shelter with a cheque for $9,000.
