we are so glad that the indigo girls have returned. they are so exciting to watch and to photograph and to tape. and they sure get the crowd going from start to finish--there are standing ovations after every song they play.

again tonight they invited other artists to play with them. first sarah and emmylou joined them on "the water is wide". beautiful. that one word sums it up. then for their last song, "closer to fine", sarah and emmylou were joined by lisa loeb, mary black, jewel, and michelle malone. the crowd went wild. we got some footage, so be sure to look for it.

today was katell keineg's last day on the tour, so we made sure that we attended her set to get some footage and to snap some photos. she made a point of playing a song written by a nashville-based writer. if memory serves correctly it was a song called "what a wonderful thing love is" by al green (forgive us if that's wrong). it was very cool. she had the audience swaying and dancing.

rickjust after we returned to the bus after the ig's set, our new pal and unofficial correspondent/ambassador rick hastings came to say good-bye to all of us. he was driving off to his hotel and then off to san antonio in the morning. he had a great time on the tour and had lots of great stories to tell us. in particular tonight he managed to sit right in the photographer's pit for all of jewel's set and for the ig's set. man, he's got some nerve, but hey, no one bothered him with his "all access" pass. he said that sarah saw him while singing with the ig's and gave him a wink. we had a good laugh over that. he helped us out in particular today by bringing kelly willis by to see what we're doing. we'll see him again at the vancouver show (he lives there).

8:30PM

jewel's on now wowing the crowd after emmylou warmed them up and received a standing ovation at the end of her set. this is her home town, so she put on a somewhat special set comprising of some songs by nashville-based writers. she and her band, the spy boys, did a really nice rendition of "love hurts". at the end she acknowledged her mom and the rest of her family who were in the audience.

landminebefore she left the stage, she took the opportunity to speak out about a campaign to ban the use of land mines, a campaign that she supports. she distributes postcards which people can sign and send to the whitehouse asking them to sign an international treat this december. for more information visit the united states campaign to ban landmines web site at www.waf.org/landmine.html.

7:30PM

lisa and emmylouLisa Loeb was joined by Emmylou Harris near the end of Lisa's set this afternoon. Emmylou contributed background vocals to a new song of Lisa's. The audience was surprised when Emmylou walked on from the side of the stage just in time to sing along to the chorus of the song: "somewhere between meeting and finally leaving is something called falling in love".

4:30PM

There was a good attendance today at the Nashville press conference. Sarah McLachlan, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers (The Indigo Girls), Emmylou Harris, Lisa Loeb, Kelly Willis, Katell Keineg, Beth Orton and Alisha Carroll were on hand to answer the local press questions.

Linda Crockett Jackson volunteer co-ordinator and Vida Stollings program director for the YWCA and My Sister's House accepted a cheque for $14,500 from Sarah on behalf of Lilith Fair. Crockett Jackson, in her thank you said "it is very empowering to see women helping other women."

The highlight of the conference was Emmylou Harris' appeal for recognition of the International Campaign To Ban Landmines. She encouraged all the press gathered to pick up a postcard that is addressed to President Clinton urging recognition of the grave problem of antipersonnel landmines.

whoo-hoo! the catering's good today. yummy oriental food complete with vegetarian spring rolls, sweet and sour sauce, hot mustard, and fortune cookies. we are happy.

after lunch we plan to play the free pinball machines. the freddy krueger one looks challenging. Not very Lilith-like, but challenging.

did we mention the weather? did we mention how fresh we feel today? did we mention that it's splendid and pleasant? did we mention that we don't miss dallas? (well, we do miss dallas, just not the heat and humidity.) let's keep this up!

today the b-stage and the borders stage are quite far from one another, so that means we'll be running around today with our cameras trying to get THE shot. it's good -- we need the exercise.

the TBA act on the borders stage today is a woman named alisa carroll. we saw her at lunch and chatted a bit. she's a fan of the lilith web site. check out her's when you get the chance.

1:00PM

Its lunchtime at the Starwood Ampitheatre and spirits seem to be high. One of the vendors lent her skateboard to Nettwerk booth employee Jay Clark. Once Jay stepped off the board several others climbed on. Skaters included Sarah who informed me that she hadn't been on a board for 10 years not since the days she had her picture in Thrasher magazine. For those of you who are going through your old pile of Thrasher she said it was in 1986 and she's pictured on a half pike. Who knew?

Sarah's soundcheck today was a fun one. Guitarist Sean Ashby set up a low microphone for the ever present Rex. Rex seemed a bit shy today deciding to leave the backing vocals to Camille.
