Todays press conference was attended by Shawn Colvin, Lisa Loeb, Sheryl Crow, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers from The Indigo Girls, Sarah McLachlan, Patty Griffin, Julia Fordham, Liz Berlin and Yungchen Lhamo.
A member of the press asked Sheryl Crow of her impression of Lilith Fair. Sheryl said "One of the things I noticed last night when leaving the gig - which was different than any other gig I've ever done, particularly festivals - people were lined up on the road applauding the buses as they were going by. it wasn't just females. it was males and everybody was really celebrating this event. It just seems like as you travel through the world like we do, attitudes are really changing towards women, and women are becoming empowered and men are getting with the program and realizing that you can put more than one woman on the bill and sell tickets that way. There's nothing to be afraid of and women are being looked to as having an intellectual point of view that's worth listening to."
Lisa Loeb tackled the question of why more woman are not on other summer festival tours. "Some of the other music festivals that have been going on aren't so singer/songwriter centred. This tour seems to be made up of a genre of music thats a little bit different than the music thats been in the Horde tour or Lollapalooza. I think the music, although theres a lot of variety, has a certain songwriting connection."
Sarah presented a cheque for $18,500 to the Women's Resource Center. Peg Ruddy and Ann Paplinski were on hand to receive the cheque.
