LOVE, MUSIC, AND NO SALES TAX! posted Sunday, July 6, 1997 Salem, OR 11:00PM PDTAnother day, another 10,000 satisfied fans. Even though our bus is behind the stage and back another 100 foot we have to yell to hear each other between songs because the crown noise is so darn loud. Don't people realize that we have work to do? Highlights today included Jewel telling everyone about how Alaskians and Oregonians (is that right?) share a special bond. They liked that here. And no, she didn't say the same thing at the Gorge about people from Washington. Suzanne Vega got a great response. Cassandra Wilson brought down the house. Everyone loved Tracy, especially when she picks up her digeridoo (i'll figure out how to spell it and let you know). The Raphael House of Portland, a shelter for battered women and their children was presented a cheque for $9500 from Lilith Fair at today's press conference. 7:00PM PDTDespite a day of unappetizing catering, everyone seems to be in a pretty good mood, except when leaving the dinner hall. The sun is shining, it's not quite as hot as the Gorge, and the music is just as inspiring.
We've got some coverage coming your way soon. Today's highlights on the site include a Suzanne Vega interview, a video diary from Sarah's bassist Brian Minato, and hopefully some video from Jewel's performance tonight. All this plus another few pages of photos, just as soon as we get another phone line. |
