LILITH IN LA: A DOUBLE GRANDE DECAF FESTIVAL TO GO (with foam please)
posted Wednesday, July 9, 1997
Irvine, CA

Paula Cole is in the midst of her set. She seems to be feeling a bit better today. It seems like the energy and enthusiasm from her acoustic performance has carried over in a big way to her main stage time. We like Paula. She's so nice.

Dinner was good tonight. Rice and beans and salad and roasted corn on the cob. There other things but we pretended not to notice.

The celebs are starting to come out Fran Dreschler (TV's "The Nanny") and the smartalecky friend that we all love, Matthew Perry was spotted by our chief celebrity spotter Vanessa.

Things were pretty busy at the second and acoustic stages. The audiences were the largest yet and very appreciative. The only weird thing was a cigar store that the venue has set up.

Jewel's up next!

So much has happened in so little time. The press conference went well. These LA press people are serious. They had questions. They had big cameras. They were in the house.

Suzanne Vega talked about the huge change she has seen in the industry over her 13 year career. In all her previous touring she has only ever shared the bill with other women twice. Wow. That really puts Lilith into perspective.

When asked if any one person was responsible for what women have gained in the music industry recently, both Sarah commented that there was no one person but it was "a lot of small victories."

A reporter from a TV channel who shall remain unnamed, only because i couldn't see his ID tag) asked Sarah if Lilith would be a tough act for H.O.R.D.E. and Lollapolloza to follow. Sarah laughed and replied that the hardest act for her to follow was Tracy Chapman.

Before the daily cheque presentation to a local charity, Sarah said that it is a fantastic feeling to leave an indelible mark on each community that Lilith visits and that by the time the tour ends Lilith will have given over $700,000 to local and national charitible organizations that work with and for women.

Today's local charity was the Women's Transitional Living Center, a shelter for battered women and their families. On behalf of Lilith Fair Sarah presented them with a cheque for $14,000.

Oh there's more, i almost forgot. Paula Cole opened up the day with a special performance on the Village Acoustic Stage. Besides playing some songs that aren't in her main stage set, Paula also commented to cheers that playing on the small stage was more exciting than playing on the main stage.
