LILITH FUN FACT: CANADIANS BURN WORSE THAN AMERICANS
posted Thursday, July 10, 1997
Phoenix, AZ

9:15PM PDT or whatever timezone Phoenix is in

We learned today that Phoenix is alot like Saskatchewan, my one time home (hi mom and dad - like you have an internet connection HA!), in that while the rest of the US and Canada use daylight savings, Arizona and Saskatchewan don't. There are lots of jokes as to why this is the case in Saskatchewan, none of which are worth repeating. If anyone has any idea why Arizona does you can let us know. Or just keep it to yourself, it's not that important.

Mary Chapin seemed to have a great time with her first show. Her dogs are very cool, too. Gorgeous golden retrievers. They came out onto the stage with her at the start of her set. Then they wandered off to do dog things.

We're expecting a dust storm any minute. It could be happening right now for all we know. We have the A/C and the stereo blasting, so we'd never hear it.

For those who are keeping score, the catering was great today. I think that makes it 2 wins, 1 loss (hi salem), and a tie.

I know this first report is later than usual, but it so freakin' hot here. Lauren Hoffman summed things up when, during her Borders Stage set she said "I can't believe you people live here." She meant it in the nicest possible way.

When the artists aren't on stage being fried to a crisp, they have been hanging out in their dressing rooms as many of the buses air condition units have been breaking down from overwork and lack of appreciation. After today we will appreciate them greatly. We love our air conditioning unit! Especially now that it is working again.

Today is the last day for a few of our new friends and Lilith artists. Our two Borders Stage artists, Lauren and Kinnie are leaving us. We really enjoyed their sets and hope that the exposure they received in the last week will help them with what should be very successful and long careers. And the last two of the original second stage artists pack it in today, Cassandra Wilson and Leah Andreone. Everyone will be missed greatly. And then on the main stage, Suzanne Vega wraps up her week of dates with us tonight, but not before we get an interview with her. Finally, our Alaskan buddy, Jewel and her merch goddess BiBi, head back home for a couple of shows before coming back to see us (yay!) but without Bibi (boo!).

We hope they all leave with fond memories of their time spent on Lilith Fair.

We're busy making new friends today to replace Tracy and Mudgirl who left yesterday. We're very lucky to have Mary Chapin Carpenter joining us for the next week. We saw her on Politically Incorrect the other night and thought she was great. Her crew has been great to have around today. Rex is especially happy as she now has two dogs to play with. Sure it's great to be Sarah and Ash's dog, but you need a little canine once in awhile. Also jumping aboard today is September 67. At the press conference today Kirstin and Shannon said that this is only the second time they have ever played with other women. Seems to be a pattern developing here.

Kinnie Starr mentioned today that she is putting together a three women tour of her own with Vede Hille, Oh Susanna!, and herself. There's a show you don't want to miss.
