LILITH FAIR COMES TO BEANTOWN posted Tuesday, July 22, 1997 Mansfield, MA 8:45PM EDTToday is a crazy day at Lilith Fair. There are so many people here, both at the show and backstage. It seems like half the bands have someone from Boston (Paula and Juliana are both from the area) and if it's not the bands it is the crew. Normally our little backstage world hovers around 100 to 120 people. Today it is more like 300. But it's fun. I don't think that it could be like this everyday, as the volume of people in a small space means that you are always going going going - saying hi to people, meeting new people, getting out of the way of people, trying to stay out of the way of the crew that is working...it gets draining. All this while trying to do your own work as well. Bob from Mary Chapin's group was at the show tonight. We ran into him in the catering room. Bob is so sweet. We were very happy to see him again and told him how much we missed him and Chapin and everyone on their crew. They are really great people. Next year they had better do more shows with us or we'll protest the event. Besides, now that Chapin knows what kind of computers we have, I don't think she can stay away. The performers have been so well received so far. It's a perfect day weather-wise. Everyone in Boston seems so pumped for this event. It is really a great feeling for us to come to a place and feel the warmth from the crowd. And when there is 20,000 people there is alot of warmth. The Cardigans are just wrapping up their set. We were talking today about how great it is to have them on the tour. Same with Autour De Lucie. It's cool to have a different perspective on everything rather than the same North American centred beliefs. Valerie from Autour was telling us that this is all so strange and exciting for them. They had never even thought about playing outside of France before and here they are playing in front on thousands of people. Not only that, but they put on a great show. 4:15PM EDTJuliana Hatfield got things going today with a special performance on the Village Acoustic stage. The crowd of over 500 was packed around the stage, trying to get a view of her performance from every conceivable angle. It was just Juliana and an acoustic guitar, welcoming all the fans to another wonderful day at Lilith Fair. |
