GARDEN STATE OF EDEN

9:00PM EDT

the cardigans have just finished their set. the audience seemed to really enjoy it. fiona was on before them; she seemed to be chasing a few demons away tonight. it was a more intense set than usual (if that's possible!). before her paula cole wowed the crowd with her final set of the tour. she's been a highlight for a lot of fans and the crew. she'll sure be missed.

moments ago paula and sarah said their good-byes backstage. it was a protracted parting with lots of hugs, smiles, laughs, kisses, and tears. paula's set to head home to n.y. where she'll be on regis and kathy lee on monday morning. after that she said she'll be taking a month of to chill out and get grounded again. good for her; we wish her the best!

victoria williams was in her usual witty, sweet form. she's so ingenuous and unassuming. she even thanked the audience for clapping for her.

we managed to catch some if not all of the new artists' sets. jill sobule played alone with her guitar to an enthusiastic audience and stuck around to sign autographs for over an hour afterward. people couldn't believe that she had the stamina for it. once blue graced the b-stage with their mellow, delicate melodies. the crowd was amazingly quiet during their set. as usual, lilith audiences are intent on hearing new music. the same went for joy askew. she played both guitar and piano and even sang along to a boom box for her final song. she had quite a crowd gathered by the time she finished.

every day there's an unannounced act on the borders stage at 3:30. so far on the tour that slot has been filled by artists who are currently on the tour, but today holly palmer, who isn't on the tour at all, played that stage.

6:00PM EDT

vfcvoters for choice is a group which regularly has a table in the village. it's a national organization started by gloria steinem to ensure that pro-choice candidates are promoted in the political spectrum and that voters hear about the candidates and are encouraged to vote for them.

at each venue, the staff who man the information table are local volunteers. today's volunteers are Omlulu, Roger, and Hildy (left to right in photo). They're all members of another national group, third wave, co-founded by gloria's assistant. they attended a small meeting where part of the agenda was to ask for volunteers for the lilith fair information table. they signed up and were chosen to help out. they all seemed pretty psyched to be here.

3:30PM EDT

It's tough to give you summaries when we don't have any phone lines around, but that's what we are faced with today. We'll try and see what we can get out today.

The biggest news of the day is that it is Paula's last show with us :-(. She has toured with Sarah more than anyone and I know that Sarah will miss Paula very much. We all grew to adore Paula (those of us that didn't adore her already) and we wish her the best in the upcoming months as "This Fire" continues to be, well, on fire.

Joining the tour today are Once Blue, a duo from New York who are here today and then again in Columbia. Also joining Lilith until the end of the month are two artists that we have been looking forward to for quite some time: Joy Askew and Jill Sobule. Welcome everyone.

1:30PM EDT

sarah is currently on stage sound checking and sounds great. the other stages and village booths are currently being set up. it was just announced that today's opening act on the borders stage will be holly palmer. she'll be going on at 3:35.

they don't call this the garden state for nothing. this venue is surrounded by woods and nice gardens. what a complete turnaround from yesterday's concrete jungle. everyone on the crew seems to be in much better moods today. oh, and the improved weather sure helps too.

and the venue staff here is so nice. they're helping us get our phone line situation sorted out. turns out that they have digital lines coming to our bus, but we only have analog modems. how ironic.
