CHARLOTTE'S WEB (PAGE) posted Wednesday, July 31, 1997 Charlotte, NC 10:00PM EDTwow, what an amazing moment we just experienced. for some reason, angelique, jana and cathy were compelled to leave the bus to watch what we could of the indigo girl's set. we went to the side of the stage and joined a whole slew of other folks already there enjoying their performance. we watched a couple of songs and then emily said, "we'd like to introduce the woman who brought lilith fair to you. please welcome sarah mclachlan." what?!! no one told us about this! there was sarah, walking on stage with her lyric sheet and launching into "the water is wide" with emily and amy. wow, even though we weren't taping it (drat!), were we ever glad to witness it. sarah sang a verse as both amy and emily watched on with clear admiration in their faces. the crowd was going wild by the time they finished. we figured nothing could top that, but then who walked out on stage to join them for the next song but joan, jewel, susanna, sonia from disappear fear, and some of joan's band members. we were floored as they all took turns singing "closer to fine". it was like a love-in. and to think that we just totally lucked out in seeing it! (someone's gonna get the gears for not letting us know about it. tsk tsk. maybe they'll do it again.) this really is what lilith fair is all about. 9:15PM EDTso far so good. today's run smoothly along without any hitches. terry at b-stage said today's been monumentally better than yesterday was. it's nice to see everyone smiling and feeling upbeat. the food had something to do with that again today. both the veggies and the non-veggies were satisfied. and we even had the same chef who was working at raleigh yesterday. we made sure we thanked him again and we even got photos of him for the site. highlights of the day so far include watching part of emmylou's set from side stage, abra rocking the b-stage (again!), jill's and joy's last sets, kelly willis' first set (she's great!), and emmylou's visit to our bus to see the web site. and this just in from angelique: "there's a total love-in out there with the indigo girls. the crowd was singing along to 'galileo'. and the queer contigent in the front was giving me chocolate." they are HOT. don't miss out on seeing them if they ever come your way. they are one of the best acts we've seen so far on this tour. 1:30PM EDTwe've heard from reliable sources that lunch today is a "vegetarian's delight", so we're soon to be headed over there to check it out. mmmm.... so far today things are going 100% better than yesterday. the weather's fine, the forecast is good, the borders and b stages are rolling and set up, sarah's finished sound check, the monitor boards are working, the substitute bus showed up on time, we got our fedex, and we're ready to start capturing the day's events as soon as the gates open. already today angelique has been up in the trusses with the riggers. that girl doesn't take much time to get on a story. now the rest of us want to see the world from that view. we'll have her photos up later on. new today is kelly willis. we like her cause we already know that she has a whole lot of cats. some of us here are suffering cat withdrawal and somehow the dogs just don't cut it as replacements! maybe shawn colvin will have her cats with her on her bus this time (she's done that in the past). |
