Shawn Colvin, Jewel, Fiona Apple and Lisa Loeb have been added to the Lilith Fair all-women festival tour.

The tour, consisting of approximately 35 North American dates, is set to kick off July 5 at The Gorge in central Washington state and run through August. Other stops on the tour include San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Detroit.

Previously confirmed artists include Sarah McLachlan, The Cardigans, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Paula Cole, Indigo Girls and Suzanne Vega.

The Lilith Fair tour, created by McLachlan, is the first of its kind, and makes a statement about the evolution of the role of women in popular music. "Itıs been a long time since I was this excited about something," says McLachlan. "We wouldn't have been able to do this five years ago. It's a very cool feeling." Paula Cole is just as passionate about the tour, but takes a more philosophical stance: "As Virgil said, 'dux femina facti' (the woman got it done)."

As part of their community outreach, Lilith Fair intends to make significant charitable contributions to LIFEbeat and RAINN, as well as select local women's charities in each market. LIFEbeat, a not-for profit AIDS resource and awareness organization, is the American music industry's response to the international AIDS crisis. The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) operates America's only national toll-free hotline for survivors of sexual assault. The hotline (1-800-656-HOPE) provides callers free, confidential counselling and support 24 hours a day, from anywhere in the country.

The market specific women's charities will be selected on a case by case basis.
