Detroit, Michigan

This is the last of three days in Detroit, Michigan, the city where I joined the Lilith Fair tour last year. Getting to stay in a hotel for two nights in a row has been a real treat. And it was cool because it seemed that everyone from the tour staying at the hotel was down in the bar after the show. Last night was Sinaed O'Connor's last date and the Indigo Girls are leaving the tour for a while. So it was good to hang out with those artists and their bands.

In general, I like the venue here (Pine Knob) but not when it comes to shooting mainstage artists. At most venues, there's a barricade set up a few feet in front of the stage. We're allowed in the space between the barricade and the stage, so we can easily move around and shoot from different angles. But there isn't one here, so there's no good place to shoot without being in someone's way. And audiences members DO complain when you block their view (I would too!). So we've been forced to move quickly when taking photos and try to shoot from the side of the stage whenever possible.

It's a sad day because Litany is leaving the tour. They've proven to be my favorite Lilith band so far. They're a four-piece from Australia who combine melodic guitar pop with elements of metal and punk. I've been making a point of catching their entire set whenever possible and just bought their cd at the Tower booth. But I'll be seeing them again soon; they'll be doing some NY shows when I get back.

Today was supposed to be my last date on the tour for now, but instead I'm staying another week. Then I'll be back at some point in August. We have a day off tomorrow in Rochester, which I really think I need. Days are starting to blur together, but I think we've had five straight days of shows.
