Columbia, Maryland
11:00am
They are going to have to drag me away from this hotel. This is our second
day in Columbia, Maryland and as far as I'm concerned, we could have a
third and a fourth or more. Bus call is in one hour and I'm in the mood
just to hang out here. I know I'm lame, but hey man, it's Sunday.
3:00pm
We interviewed Rebekka, a singer/songwriter from Ohio. It just so happened
her dad was at the show, so we got some footage on him as well. It turns
out, though, that this is the first time he'd seen her perform. He
radiated pride from every single pore and absolutely could not stop smiling
and talking about his daughter. And even though he insisted he didn't want
to do any of the talking during the interview, one question broke the ice
and he was all over it.
6:00pm
I don't think I've described how cool the Village is set up here. As you
may or may not know, the Village is where all the vendors set up their
booths and sell their sunglasses, t-shirts, oils, jewelry, coffee and stuff
to people. Unlike many venues where tents are set up on blacktop or near
restroom facilities, here the Village becomes a real village. Nestled in
the woods, all the tents are under trees and rest on grass and hay. To get
to each vendor, you have to walk around the trees and picnic tables. The
Village stage is also set up here, and since it's nice and cool under the
shade, it attracts quite a crowd. It's really the perfect place for
something like this.
7:30pm
I got to meet Natalie Merchant. I didn't act too star-struck, thankfully,
but we had a nice conversation in her dressing room along with one of my
friends. Situations like these take some getting used to as well as
practice--not that I normally get to meet famous people in my real
life--but you know what I mean.
8:00pm
The house is on their feet for the Indigo Girls. It's really a
bubble-blowing, beach ball passing, happy, peaceful event today and the
Indigo Girls totally embody that. With just two guitars and two
microphones, they can rock the house down.
Midnight
Well, it's sad to leave this lovely venue. I suspect that aside from a few
others, this will be considered one of the best. Fortunately for us, we're
headed to Virginia Beach tomorrow for our day off! I hear there is an
awesome beach party and again, even though I'm sleeping better these days
on the bus, I can't wait for a nice big bed!
