West Palm Beach, Florida

Welcome to West Palm Beach, Florida! After a lovely day's rest at the beach, the pool, the mall and a nice restaurant in Palm Beach during our day off yesterday, we're rested and ready to get back in the swing of things. It's still weird to see palm trees everywhere, but the nice thing about this venue is that they are all over the place, so it's got this tropical feel to it all.

9:15am
Happy day, our bus is parked right in front of catering! I'm starving and feel ever so fortunate I get to slip on my flip-flop and tread on over for some breakfast.

2:45pm
Despite it being a Sunday, there is fair amount of media people here for the press conference. Today's donation totals $15,300 and goes to the YWCA Harmony House. The nice lady is so happy she's almost crying and I've definitely got a good sized lump in my throat.

4:30pm
This is Holly McNarland's last day which totally sucks! We were able to talk with her a bit before her departure and I must say for all her bellowing and carrying on while onstage, she has a quiet voice and shy demeanor in person. She talked a lot about her husband and dog and told us her typical day in Vancouver is spent with her beloved, trying to find a beach to hang out at with the pup. She's so well-adjusted it's hard to image the place that some of her more raucous songs come from. But either way, hands down, she rocks the mic.

6:00pm
We've just talked with Anggun. Now most of you won't know this, but she is HUGE in her homeland of Indonesia. She says she can't walk the streets because she will be mobbed by people--how cool! Her career in the U.S. is just taking off and now that I've seen her, I swear I'm seeing her name everywhere. She is so young and so accomplished, plus she can speak three languages, which is necessary seeing that she lives in Paris. What a great life!

9:30pm
I have learned a lot on this tour and been fortunate enough to witness some very special moments--and one just happened.

Natalie was on stage singing the "Thank You" song (not sure of actual title)--her last tune for the set. Sarah and Latifah, as well as most of their band members are backstage. I happen to look up from my notes, as I do from time to time, and see all of them dancing in the dark amid speaker cabinets, wires and electrical equipment, mouthing the words to each other. It's these moments, when they think no one is watching, I discover what loving music is all about.

Midnight
I've got one more day left before I have to fly back to the city. Now that I'm in the swing of things, I'm able to think about this all a bit more clearly.

With every artist we speak with, many of them echo the same sentiments: that performing at Lilith is a dream come true. Well, for me it is also a dream come true. To be able to document such a historical and entertaining event by talking with fans, crew members, vendors, artists and writing it all down plus touring from place to place is my personal heaven. I have loved every second of it and it will be sad to pack up and leave tomorrow.

But until then, there's beer and pizza to be consumed! And since we've scored some beach chairs, we'll rest our tired selves outside the buses for a night cap and maybe a friendly parking lot soccer game. The joys of touring!
