![]() Monday, July 13, 1998 Holmdel, New Jersey Yay! The Indigo Girls are back! I ran into Emily back stage and she said she was very happy to be back. Jocelyn and I told her we all missed her very much and I swear she blushed just a little bit. They got right back into the swing of rounding up all the performers and having a "hootenanny" (their own words). Missy "Misdeamenor" Elliot stirred the camp up quite a bit. Her act is so huge. She brought thirty people with her. It was more performance art/theatre than rock show. Her dancers wore at least four different outfits and she three. There was a full band plus two guys on the side rapping and dancing the whole time. However, the highlight of the show was when Missy Elliot, not once but twice, walked off the stage and through the crowd up to where the lawn starts. The audience was screaming and yelling. Missy Elliot kept singing and rapping the whole time. She even took the opportunity to sit down in an empty seat and continue her song from there. It think that's one of the coolest things I've ever seen a performer do! It definitely got the crowd riled up. Meanwhile out in the village Garrison Starr performed to a huge crowd who seemed to be familiar with her radio song "Super Hero." They sang along to the chorus and cheered loudly. One guy with a deep gruff voice screamed in my ear "Garrison" several times before I could get away from him! Sarah made a second cameo appearance during Heather Nova's act. The sang a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire." I feared the fans would break the barricade over Sarah McLachlan coming on stage, but everything remained calm. |
