Columbia, Maryland

Our computer crashed yesterday so there won't be many photographs from Merriweather Post Pavilion. Another beautiful venue with lots of trees and nice landscaping. The local band from D.C. was Dead Girls and Other Stories. I hate to say, they were a nice change from the soft, melodic sweetness we usually see on the Village Stage. Not that I don't really like most of the artists who have played. But the Dead Girls and Other Stories were a four-member band sporting electric guitars who really wanted to rock out in a bubble gum pop sort of way. They reminded me of the Go-Go's whom I love. I was also pleasantly surprised by Holly McNarland's powerful voice and rocking guitar riffs. I can't wait to catch her act again today. I met a couple of really nice young men at Jill's booth, Chris and Noah. Both were big Indigo Girls fans. I haven't talked to nearly as many men as women so it was nice to get a male perspective. I asked them if they came to pick up "babes." They emphatically assured me that this was not the kind of place to do that.

Well, the huge party happened last night. Everyone from our hotel hopped on one bus and shuttled over to the other hotel where the party was being thrown. Leanne (aka D.J.) dj-ed for the party most of the night. I think I danced my butt off for at least three hours. Around three the party migrated to the parking lot. Levi, the bus driver of the shuttle dragged us all back to our own hotel. No one seemed ready to quit and we were all starving. The woman at the desk told us about Teddy's Diner down the road. We piled into the Godess Nail Potion mobile and indulged ourselves with fried, greasy, cheesy food. It probably saved me from a wicked hangover. As it was I was just tired. Such was the over-all mood at the venue the next day. It was even hotter and stickier the second day, making it even worse. It was worth the steam that was released by all. Not to mention the fact that we all got to hang out together since we are usually separated by two hotels and some kind of distance. I think we all needed to feel some unification.
