 Thursday, July 23, 1998 Charlotte, North Carolina As I write this, I'm sitting in the sheltered comfort of the bus while it's pouring rain out, and it sounds like it's getting worse. Meanwhile, from the bus I can see people streaming in through the gates on their way to a soggy spot on the grass, most of them without any raingear whatsoever, seemingly unfazed by the downpour. I feel bad for them, as I'm sure they've all been looking forward to this particular day for a while, but that's what happens at these outdoor gigs --if you have general admission tickets, you are completely at the mercy of the elements. Maybe the rain will help, since it's an extremely hot day today in Charlotte, NC....and we're heading south to Atlanta and then Florida on the weekend....Did I mention that I don't do well in the heat? I'm just a little concerned about the upcoming dates in Texas. The rain seems to have let up a little, so maybe it won't even make a dent in anyone's day after all. Yesterday was Queen Latifah's first date with Lilith. I shot some video of the beginning of her set, and Ash was there too, videotaping her for his own personal collection, while singing and dancing along to the first song. I also spotted Bonnie Raitt and Sarah watching from the side of the stage. I don't know Queen Latifah's music that well, but I've always admired her....she strikes me as being a very strong person and a smart businesswoman who doesn't seem interested in compromising her integrity one bit to sell more records or get more press or mtv air time. Tomorrow is Atlanta, and I've just noticed a note on tomorrow's itinerary that says it's the "official Hawaiian shirt day" -- woohoo! Can't say I packed one, so maybe the flowery green one I brought will have to do. We'll certainly make sure to get pictures of any loud, obnoxious shirts that make an appearance for y'all... |
