Houston, Texas

I think there's a flu bug going around...I've been trying very hard to stay healthy, taking vitamins, sleeping lots, but it seems that I now have the flu. So, I' ve switched days with Nina today, so that I can spend most of my time in the bus on the computer.

Yesterday, my honey sent me a care package....vegan chocolate, Cliff bars (especially good on hotel days for breakfast) and wheat-free crackers, yay! Soooo nice to feel loved. When I called home last night, I got to hear one of our two cats, Eudora, meowing over the phone, and I melted. I even got to say hi to our dog Lillie, and she was apparently looking around the room when she heard my voice. How's that for making myself homesick?

Yesterday was our first day in Houston. The venue's well laid out and there are only 7000 people at each of the two shows, so the grounds don't have that cramped feeling like some do. A whole bunch of collaborations took place at yesterday's show--it was hard to keep track: Bonnie Raitt played on a song with Holly Cole; Sarah, Ash, and Holly came out for Rebekah's last song (it was her last day), Bonnie played with Meredith, Sarah sang with Bonnie, Sarah came out for Natalie's last song, and Bonnie played guitar on one of Sarah's songs. It's great to see that the collaborations are happening despite the absence of the Indigo Girls (everyone was a little worried that they wouldn't be happening as often!), and it's wonderful to see and feel the crowd's immediate reaction when another artist makes a surprise appearance. And then there is the nightly finale when all the day's artists come out onstage. As you can imagine, the crowd goes nuts but it also must be such a thrill for the artists to feel so much energy and enthusiasm coming from the audience at the end of the day. It's definitely my favourite part of the show.

Tonight, it's on to Austin, TX, another city I've never been to before. I've heard so many great things about the place, but like every other city the tour stops in, we see the venue grounds, and that's it. It's a little frustrating, but I know I'm not on the tour to sightsee....
