Austin, Texas

Today we were in Austin....it was hot, dusty, and...hot. it was the kind of day where everyone was looking at each other, shaking their heads. The day seemed to go on without a hitch though, despite the dust bowl of a venue and a few cases of heat stroke and asthma attacks among the crew and crowd.

Lucinda Williams joined the tour yesterday for a couple of shows. I'm not familiar with her music, but I certainly want to know more about it after seeing the crowd's reaction to her yesterday. Sarah, Ash, and N'dea Davenport came over to see her play at the B-Stage; Kacey Crowley, who played Lilith earlier in the month (and lives in Austin) was right up front singing along with every song.

I'll be hopping off the tour tomorrow night, back to New York, my bed, my honey, my cats and my dog. It will be a short break-- I'll be coming back in a couple of weeks for the Canadian dates. Somehow, I just couldn't imagine being on the road for the whole tour. I really wonder if I have what it takes to do that, or if I would completely go nuts half way through. I look at the crew and wonder how they do it, since they must all have friends, family, pets, and homes that they miss. I guess that life on the road is very attractive for some people. You become part of a tight group of people who become family to you, and I suppose replace any holes you may have in your "real" life. I suppose life on the road is all that some of the crew may have - maybe they don't have a stable life elsewhere. For me, just the thought of sleeping in my own bed is enough for me to want to go home, which I get to do tomorrow morning, yay!!
