TOM'S OF MAINE PARTNERS WITH LILITH IN CANADA

Kennebunk, Maine - Tom's of Maine, the leading manufacturer of natural personal care products, has announced its sponsorship of the 1999 Lilith Fair Music Festival in Canada. Since its inception in 1970. Tom's has operated on the belief that "a company can be profitable and successful while behaving in a socially and environmentally responsible manner." As a result, Tom's has had a long and rewarding history of forging mutually sustaining partnerships with leading social and environmental organizations that share the company's values and commitment.

In seeking out partners for Tom's expansion into Canada, Lilith Fair and its charitable/community focus seemed "a natural fit" for the company. As part of their Canadian sponsorship program, Tom's will assist with Lilith's on-site recycling program, and will distribute natural toothpaste samples to concert goers in Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto. Tom's will also use these venues to better acquaint Canadian consumers with the company's goal of "protecting the diversity and sustainability of life, while acting as responsible stewards of the earth's natural resources."

In association with the Lilith Fair sponsorship, Tom's will also pledge additional support to Canadian women's organizations. This initiative is consistent with Tom's mission in the U.S, where the company annually donates 10% of pre-tax profits to charitable organizations. Tom's has partnered with non-profit organizations such as Leave No Trace, the Jane Goodall Institute and the National Alliance for Animals, as well as many regional environmental and social groups. Tom's employees are also encouraged to spend 5% of their paid work time volunteering in their communities. Local homeless shelters, the American Red Cross, RAINN and the Literacy Volunteers of America are just a few of the groups that have benefited from company volunteers.

For over 25 years, Tom's of Maine has offered a complete range of personal care products sourced from nature, including toothpaste, soap, deodorant and mouthwash. The company has applied "imaginative science from plants and mineral" to create safe and highly effective products without the use of artificial sweeteners, flavors and dyes. Tom's environmentally friendly products use no animal ingredients and are tested for efficacy without the use of animals.

Consumers who wish to make a more holistic choice in their personal care products, aligned with their personal values, can find Tom's of Maine products at most health food stores and leading Canadian drug and food retailers.
