July 10, The Gorge day 2 Although we were at the same venue as yesterday, today was a tougher day...the main reason for this being that there were more than twice as many people in attendance here than yesterday. Saturdays bring the crowds out, especially to a venue like this that is quite a lengthy drive from the closest city centre. Not only are there more people to weave through and hotter temperatures to endure, but I have shin splints from climbing "the hill" yesterday. Our bus is still at the top of it, but I think we've become experts at timing our comings and goings better, keeping the trips to a minimum, and spotting golf cart ride opportunities whenever possible. I run into Jocelyn today in catering, sporting her new short hair cut. It looks great, and she says that a friend of the crew is here today, giving haircuts for a very reasonable price. Jennifer jumps at the opportunity and signs up for a cut, which I document with my digi-cam. She's awfully trusting of the woman doing the cutting, and goes for a very short cut, very similar to what I remember her having last year. It looks wonderful, and she says she feel alot better for it. So, Joce and Jen are now part of the short-haired chick club, which has a good number of lilith members this year. I'm really missing my dog Lillie, but today I got a bit of a dog fix by playing with Rex (Sarah and Ash's dog) and Guinness (Jack Russell companion to Catherine and Paul from production) for a while after dinner. They were both going after the same slobbery tennis ball, and it quickly became obvious that Rex has much better manners than Guinness. She knows to "drop it" in order to continue the game and have the ball thrown back up in the air, whereas Guinness just hogs the ball, making his way under a picnic table where no one, including Rex, can take the ball away from him. Different breeds mean different styles in play. (I'll stop writing about this now, for all you non-dog people i've bored to tears.) I'm able to catch the tail end of the sunset this evening, and it pretty much completes the Gorge experience for me. What a "Gorge-ous" sight - as Jennifer would joke (funny girl). We have a long 10 hour drive tonight to Oregon, of which we'll notice none of - we'll be asleep during the drive and should wake up to a stadium parking lot in downtown Portland tomorrow morning. I hear there's good coffee in those parts... |
