Lifebeat Daily Diary
Saturday July 31, Hershey Park Stadium
ASO - AIDS Community Alliance
Today was another scorcher and another very busy day. The way in which the
venue
was set up wnsured heavy traffic throughout the day.
Our partner - AIDS Community Alliance brought tons of great material including
lots of brochures geared to adolescents. We get a good number of young
women who
approach the table with shy groans and embarrasing giggles. You can tell that
there are things that they want to know but aren't really sure what to ask. Two
of the volunteers today were teens and they took the reins in dealing with the
young people that came to the booth. They directed teens to certain pamphlets
and just started talking with them about issues that young people deal with
concerning sex and HIV. It was impressive to watch. The two volunteers are part
of a youth awareness group. They are definately a model to hold up as a
reason to
form those types of groups for young people. I remember as a teen if my friends
said something was bad. I was more apt to believe them. We use to always think
that adults thought everything was bad.
Hopefully young people are listening to those HIV educated peers.
