Behind the Scenes in San Diego, CA July 16 San Diego timeline 3:30 pm Lisa Sanders takes to the Village stage and plays for a large and very appreciative crowd, who seem quite familiar with her music. After her performance, many of her fans approach her to talk with her and to get autographs. It seems like the whole Lisa Sanders fan club is here today. 4:20 pm Cibo Matto go on the B-stage, and seem to be short a member. Bassist, Sean Lennon is nowhere to be found....He shows up moments later sporting a new straw hat he just purchased in the village. The band starts up immediately, while the crowd at the B-stage grows steadily larger, and a number of crew and artists watch from the side of the stage. Brian Minato (bassist for Sarah) is there with his own video camera, captured some footage for himself. He's come to each one of their performances, and always looks very taken by their music and stage antics. I think we're all in awe of them 5:20 pm The Murmurs are playing the Village stage now, and there is hardly room to move. Everyone's enjoying their set, including k.d. lang who's spotted sitting on the steps beside the stage, singing along to their songs. Miss lang co-produced their record, so it's not that much of a surprise to see her here today. 6:15 pm It's time for Beth Orton's set on the B-Stage which is set up in a narrow area of the compound. There are so many people wanting to see her set that it's impossible to get through the crowd to shoot her performance. 7:10pm Mya's got the mainstage audience wrapped around her finger. Not only does she seduce the crowd with her smooth voice and soulful pop, but then entrances them with a tap piece she performs that fully shows off her meticulous skills and impressive talents as a dancer that go far beyond her 19 years. 7:40 It's the first night of the Dixie Chick's Lilith Fair run...It's quite obvious that many in the audience are here to see them in particular. The crowd stands for their whole performance, dancing and singing along to their spirited brand of country pop. Tonight's mainstage line-up is certainly serving the Lilith crowd a tremendous mix of styles and genres of music to experience. 10:50 After a heart wrenching rendition of "Angel", Sarah invites all the artists who've performed today onstage for the big finale. It's yet another moment that delights the crowd to no end- seeing all of these tremendously talented performers singing side by side on one stage is a sight that would floor even the most jaded concertgoer. |
