Lilith Fair: Behind The Scenes

Talent Search Stories - Portland
by Carolyn Snell

After a long day, full of the unexpected, there's nothing like a XOOM.com/Lilith Fair Talent Search to pick up your spirits!

The Roseland, which is best known for it's upstairs theater, held the show in its newly renovated downstairs area, which could possibly be mistaken for a rock 'n roll museum. Hung all over the walls of the club were photos of performances in the northwest over the past 20 years, including Bonnie Raitt, Tina Turner and Bette Midler.

The talent search line up included an a cappella, outfit-coordinated Poulet Blanche, a Celtic jig performance by Heather Christie and a soothing harmony-driven "Only Love" by Misty River.

The audience exploded into applause when the ballots were in and Nancy Coulton was named Runner Up and the Grand Prize went to Stephanie Schniderman (whose "New Skin Completed" could easily be a radio hit!).

The night was hosted by MC Lisa Adams from the Beat and was judged by:

  • Gina and Rebecca - The Morning Show personalities, The Beat
  • Zach Dundas - Music Editor, Willamette Week
  • Helen Raptis - KATV TV 2 Entertainment Reporter
Note: Carolyn is travelling across North America representing Lilith Fair at the Talent Searches and sending back daily reports.
