Lilith Fair: Behind The Scenes

Talent Search Stories - San Francisco
by Donna Westmoreland

The final 1999 XOOM.com/Lilith Fair Acoustic Talent Search was a smashing success! Held at Slim's, the venerable San Francisco music institution owned by Boz Scaggs, a packed house of 700 music fans watched 20 diverse and talented acts perform. The event was magnificently hosted by Sterling, Alice 97.3's nighttime DJ, and featured a surprise performance by Noelle Hampton, one of last year's Talent Search winners.

Judges for the event were:
  • Howard Myint - Listings Editor, SF Bay Guardian
  • Bonnie Simmons - Artist Management (Cake)
  • Ramona Downey - Talent Buyer, Bottom of the Hill
  • Joe Paganelli - Bill Graham Presents; produced 1998 Lilith Fair Talent Search in San Francisco
  • Julie Stoekel - Music Director, Asst Program Director, KLLC, Alice 97.3

Winners are the Shelley Doty X-Tet, whose song "Passion Play" brought the crowd to their feet, and Deborah Pardes with "Prom Dress," a lyrically and musically cunning song. Also inspiring was runner up Elin Jr, whose song "Sad" left us anything but.

Special thanks go out to Tracey Buck of Slim's, and the rest of the awesome crew there, for putting on a seamless and inspiring musical evening.

Pinch hitting for Carolyn was Donna Westmoreland, Lilith Fair Director of Marketing.
